OKUAPEMAN
FEKUW OF CHICAGO
OKUSACA AFFILIATE
THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Okuapeman Fekuw (Organization) of Chicago, is a non-profit organization inaugurated in 1982. Our mission is to fellowship, and unite all Akuapem descent in Illinois and its vicinities; help each other and participate in charitable activities in Illinois, Akuapem, and Asuogya in Ghana.
Our organization is actively pursuing and engaging in charitable contributions and participation in Chicago, its surrounding suburbs, and Ghana. We have funded several projects in Akuapmen, Ghana to the admiration of its chiefs and people. And adopted the Maternity wing of the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong Akuapem. We continue to reach out and provide our services to charitable organizations as such food pantries, clothing drive centers, and other non-profit organizations.
Our story and inception came about when in the fall of 1981, the late Mr. Jonas Bonsu recognized the need to unite all Akuapem descent in Chicago, thus he held the first meeting at his house and presented the formation of an organization. Hence, the inauguration of Okuapeman Fekuw of Chicago in the summer of 1982 with an initial membership of about 25 which gradually grew to over 50 within a short period of inception.
Due to the success of Okuapeman Fekuw of Chicago's inauguration, other Ghanaian tribes in Chicago also formed associations with the primary mission to unite, fellowship, and engage in community activities. Based on the Okuapeman Fekuw of Chicago model and assistance other Akuapems in the tri-states of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia form associations in 1984.
The need to unify and coordinate the Akuapeman affairs under one umbrella in the United States prompted the formation of OKUSACA (Okuapeman Association of United States of America and Canada). Currently, ten chapters are fulfilling our mission to fellowship and unite Akuapeman descent in the United States and Canada.
